Terms and content rules
The rules of SplitScreen.Me: what the service is, what you can publish on the hub, the licence you give for your handlers, how moderation and takedowns work.
On this page
The service
SplitScreen.Me is a free community site: the documentation of Nucleus Co-op, the hub of handlers made by players, accounts to publish and discuss them, and a public API. It's run by volunteers, without ads or payments. Using it means accepting these terms; if you don't, please don't use it.
Your account
- One account per person. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what's done with your account.
- Use an email address you can read: it's how you get password resets and important messages.
- Your username must not impersonate someone else or be offensive.
- You can delete your account at any time from your account page.
Content rules
These apply to handlers, packages, descriptions, release notes, comments and usernames.
Handlers and packages
- A handler must do what its page says, for the game it's listed under, and nothing else.
- No malware: nothing that harms a player's PC, steals data, mines, spies, or downloads and runs code that isn't in the package. Explain in the description anything unusual a handler does (running as administrator, creating Windows users, changing system settings).
- No pirated content: no files of the game itself, and nothing whose purpose is to let people play a game they don't own. The network emulators Nucleus Co-op uses to connect copies of a game you own are fine.
- Only include files you have the right to share, and credit the work you build on.
- Don't publish someone else's handler as yours. Improving an existing handler is welcome: say so, and credit its author.
Comments and everything else
- Be kind: no harassment, hate, threats or personal attacks.
- No spam, advertising or links to malware or pirated games.
- No one else's personal information.
- Nothing illegal, and nothing sexual or violent beyond what a game page reasonably needs.
Licence for what you publish
You keep the rights to what you publish. By publishing it on the hub, you allow SplitScreen.Me to store, show and distribute it (on the site, through the API and inside Nucleus Co-op), and you allow every user to download it, run it with Nucleus Co-op, and adapt it to make their own handlers, which they may share on the hub with credit to you. This permission is worldwide and free, and it lasts as long as the content stays on the hub. You confirm that you have the right to give it.
Moderation
- New handlers are checked by a moderator before they're listed; trusted authors skip that step. Moderators also verify versions. Verification means a moderator looked at that version; it is not a guarantee.
- Moderators can hide a handler, remove a version or a comment, and suspend or ban accounts that break these rules. Every such action is logged.
- Anyone can report a handler or a comment. Reports go to the moderators, who decide what to do.
- If you think a decision is wrong, write to [to complete: moderation contact address] and a different moderator will look at it.
Takedown requests
If something on the hub infringes your rights or the law, write to [to complete: legal contact address] with:
- the link to the page or the handler,
- what is infringed, and why you have the right to ask (your name and your rights, or whom you represent),
- a way to reach you.
We'll look at it promptly, remove or hide the content when the request is justified, and tell the author.
The API
The hub API is free to use within its rate limits. Don't use it to overload the site, to collect personal data, or to present our content as your own: link back to the hub where you show handlers.
No warranty
Nucleus Co-op and the handlers run other people's games in ways those games weren't designed for. Everything here is offered as it is, without any warranty: handlers may not work, may break with a game update, and you use them at your own risk. As far as the law allows, SplitScreen.Me and its volunteers are not liable for any damage that comes from using the site, the app or the handlers. Some games' terms forbid running several copies or using emulators; it's up to you to respect them.
Game names and art
SplitScreen.Me isn't affiliated with any game publisher or platform. Game names, covers and screenshots belong to their owners; covers and screenshots come from IGDB and Steam.
Changes
We may change these terms as the site evolves. Important changes are announced on the site, and by email to account holders, before they apply. These terms are governed by [to complete: governing law, e.g. French law].
